Day 1 – 27th August 2014 – Travelling

Helen & Gary picked me up just after 13.00, and had an uneventful trip to the airport. Our first surprise was that even though Helen had done our boarding passes online, we had to have a temporary boarding pass seating us in the back of the plane. All the passengers had to sit in the back (except business of course) because the front hold of the plane had been filled with cargo. Mind you there must have only been about 100 of us, the plane was only 1/3 full. Once we moved to our proper seats we were able to space ourselves out and have a couple of seats each. It was a shame really that it was the short 6 hour flight, but it went smoothly enough, considering we boarded early and we also took off 20 minutes ahead of time! How often does that happen???

We didn’t have to spend much time in Kuala Lumpur as they loaded early as well. Lots more people s it was one of those double-decker ones, but our seats were in the upper deck. Long way down to the ground, LOL. No spreading out this time sadly, the top deck was quite full, no idea what the lower deck was like! It was a fairly bumpy 13 hr flight, and of course, every time they put the seat belt sign on they had to announce it to all those sleeping people. Both main meals for the 2 flights, choice of chicken or fish. Helen had the chicken both times and I had the fish. Helen didn’t do well with hers, the sauce was too spicy in one and the rice too spicy in the other. However the Spanish omelette we had for breakfast was very nice. We whizzed through the landing stuff, and were out waiting for the bus to take us to the hire car place 30 minutes after landing! Another great surprise.

We got the car and of course it had started to rain, nothing surprising there, lol. So there was Helen once again driving a manual, with the windscreen wipers & indicators on opposite sides of the steering wheel to ‘normal’. There had been an accident on the M3 which meant we sat there or crawled for half an hour or so, but the rain had stopped and wait for it, we saw blue skies & sunshine!!!!

We found the Tourist Bureau where we had to drop off 262 rovers (mobile munzees for those of you who don’t follow the game, LOL) and had a sandwich for lunch at 10 am. Then we drove to another part of Bournemouth to do a mystery munzee trail. Sadly a lot of the light poles had recently been repainted, so the munzees were not to be seen. But it was nice to get out and about after sitting through the flights and the drive.

Currently waiting for our room so we can put our feet up for a bit and then go out for a little bit of local munzee hunting around the hotel, nothing too much, too tired. Here’s hoping we have a good night’s sleep.
